How to Boot ISO Image without Burning to CD

Boot iso file without burning to CD
There are times when we want to burn the ISO image to a CD/DVD drive to know what the image does and what it contains. But burning the image to a disk needs time and also the big disadvantage of it is that if the image is burned to the disk, the CD-R can not be used again.

If you want to check an ISO file here is how you can do that without burning it to a CD-Rom and needless to mention, the image runs as perfect as is from CD. With this tool you can also take the screenshots, which you can’t if you were actually booting from the CD.

There is a great tool available on internet called MobaLiveCD which can easily run your Live CD directly on Windows and that too for free. MobaLiveCD is a freeware that runs the entire ISO image files in an emulation window as if it were running actually from the CD.

Features of MobaLiveCD:
  • No need to burn CD-Rom again.
  • Can also incorporate this tool in the right click context menu.
  • No installation required, can also run in USB drive.
  • Very easy to use, runs in single click.
  • What you all have to do is just download the tool and click the option that reads “Run the Live CD” and
  • your image will open up in a new window as shown.

Projecting without a projector sharing your smartphone content onto an arbitrary display

Previously, we presented Deep Shot, a system that allows a user to “capture” an application (such as Google Maps) running on a remote computer monitor via a smartphone camera and bring the application on the go. Today, we’d like to discuss how we support the opposite process, i.e., transferring mobile content to a remote display, again using the smartphone camera.

Although the computing power of today’s mobile devices grows at an accelerated rate, the form factor of these devices remains small, which constrains both the input and output bandwidth for mobile interaction. To address this issue, we investigated how to enable users to leverage nearby IO resources to operate their mobile devices. As part of the effort, we developed Open Project, an end-to-end framework that allows a user to “project” a native mobile application onto an arbitrary display using a smartphone camera, leveraging interaction spaces and input modality of the display. The display can range from a PC or laptop monitor, to a home Internet TV and to a public wall-sized display. Via an intuitive, projection-based metaphor, a user can easily share a mobile application by projecting it onto a target display.

Open Project is an open, scalable, web-based framework for enabling mobile sharing and collaboration. It can turn any computer display projectable instantaneously and without deployment. Developers can add support for Open Project in native mobile apps by simply linking a library, requiring no additional hardware or sensors. Our user participants responded highly positively to Open Project-enabled applications for mobile sharing and collaboration.

Using Youtube on the Raspberry Pi without XBMC or gnash

There is an update to this here.

You can install this by pulling the source from git and running the InstallAUISuite.sh file.
Commands to install are below (your user should have sudo priveledges but you dont need to sudo or be root to run the commands unless shown otherwise):

sudo apt-get install git-core
git clone git://github.com/StevenHickson/PiAUISuite.git
cd PiAUISuite/Install/
./InstallAUISuite.sh

Update Instructions

cd PiAUISuite
git pull
cd Install
sudo ./UpdateAUISuite.sh

Demonstration:

So this is a quick video to demonstrate youtube working fast and easily on the Raspberry Pi without the use of XBMC or gnash.
I tried out gnash first which didnt work at all.
So then I tried out XBMC and although it is pretty, it is awfully slow so I decided to get youtube to work on my own.
The basis of this is really simple. There is a nifty program out there called youtube-dl that can get the media file from the website and download it. Its great because it does it fast and works for many other websites like the daily show and the colbert report.
So what I did was basically write a little script that analyzes your input and then gets the proper information from the youtube-dl program without downloading the video, then it sends this http stream to omxplayer to play.
It can handle playlists or individual files from multiple websites as well as a bunch of other things.

After that, I started implementing a nice little search feature using C++ and Curl.
Im starting to implement a GUI which will essentially look like youtube kind of. Until then I have this nifty search tool, which was essentially my start to the GUI I am currently creating.

If youve ever used XBMCs youtube, you will notice that this is a lot faster, and in my opinion, easier to use and more natural. Plus it only requires a tiny file on your system as opposed to XBMCs massive footprint.

The nice part of having an easy command line program like this is that it can be incorporated into a lot of other things easily. For instance, I have incorporated it into my voicecommand script as shown in the video.

The source code can be found here. To install see the top.
